Congresswoman Miller Announces $1.7 Million for Coronavirus Response

March 24, 2020

WASHINGTON D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) announced today a grant of $1,739,288 from the Department of Health and Human Services to 28 health centers across West Virginia for the COVID-19 response. The funding is appropriated from the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act 2020 and is to be used for increased testing, acquiring medical supplies, and boosting telehealth needs. This is part of a $100 million grant for health centers nationwide.

"The full weight of the federal government is behind the effort to ensure each state has the resources it needs to combat this pandemic," said Congresswoman Miller. "We all have a role to play, and this funding for local hospitals will increase and improve testing capabilities, telehealth services, and medical supplies to protect our medical professionals. By supporting our healthcare providers and practicing social distancing, we can work together to help alleviate the tragedy of COVID-19 in our communities."

"HRSA-funded health centers have been and will be critical players in our national response to the COVID-19 pandemic," said HHS Secretary Alex Azar. "The new grants we're releasing today are a rapid injection of resources secured by President Trump from Congress in the supplemental funding bill, building on the strong investments HHS has made in health centers over the years. President Trump has emphasized a whole-of-government, whole-of-America response to the pandemic, and these grants will help health centers, which know the needs and resources of their communities best, to play their part."
