Congresswoman Miller Announces $319,423 Grant for the Safe Transport of Energy Products and Hazardous Materials

Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) announced today a Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness (HMEP) Grant of $319,423 from the U.S. Department of Transportation to the West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

Congresswoman Miller said, "West Virginia's natural resources power our state and the nation. We must ensure that all energy and hazardous materials are handled with the care needed to keep our communities safe. Thank you to the Department of Transportation for helping us continue to safely transport our coal, oil, and natural gas to power our energy grids, produce our steel, and keep America's lights on."

HMEP Grants allow states to allocate funds towards developing and revising emergency plans and trainings forthe bulk transportation of energy products, conduct studies on the frequency and quantity of hazmat shipments transported through communities, and train emergency responders for incidents involving the shipment of hazmat and other energy products.
