Congresswoman Miller Announces $50.4 Million for Rural Broadband in West Virginia
Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) announced today a grant of $50.4 million from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to expand broadband across West Virginia. The funds will be distributed over 10 years to 5 counties, one of which being $103,647 to Spruce Knob Seneca Rocks Telephone in Pocahontas County (full details below).
Congresswoman Miller said, "I am thrilled to see this funding from the FCC. Expanding rural access to broadband is crucial to building our infrastructure, growing our economy, and connecting our state. I thank the FCC and Chairman Pai for their commitment to rural West Virginia."
"Our action today will help close the digital divide and is a win-win for rural Americans and taxpayers, including over 5,500 homes and small businesses in West Virginia," said FCC Chairman Ajit Pai. "Carriers get the predictable support they need to deliver broadband to their customers in these high-cost rural areas. And taxpayers, who fund this support through a fee on their phone bills, are getting more bang for their buck."
