Congresswoman Miller Announces $55.6 Million for Transit Industry Response to COVID-19
WASHINGTON D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) today announced $55,656,246 in funding from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to West Virginia's transit industry to aid in their response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding is a direct result of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act that Congress passed last week and President Trump signed into law.
"It is crucial that our state's transportation network has the tools it needs to provide safe services for West Virginian's during this COVID-19 pandemic," said Congresswoman Miller. "In these uncertain times, I am working diligently to ensure our government will continue to provide the resources needed to keep our communities safe and healthy."
"This historic $25 billion in grant funding will ensure our nation's public transportation systems can continue to provide services to the millions of Americans who depend on them," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao.
"We know that many of our nation's public transportation systems are facing extraordinary challenges and these funds will go a long way to assisting our transit industry partners in battling COVID-19," said FTA Acting Administrator K. Jane Williams. "These federal funds will support operating assistance to transit agencies, including those in large urban areas as well as pay transit workers across the country not working because of the public health emergency."
The FTA received $25 billion total to be distributed to states where the Governor has declared an emergency. The funding is to be used to help the transit industry with any additional costs accumulated during their COVID-19 response.
