Congresswoman Miller Announces $849,379 Grant to Firefighters of West Virginia

Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) announced today two grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to firefighters in West Virginia. The first grant is an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) totaling $348,099.99, the full break down to specific localities is below. The second grant is a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant totaling $501,275 to the Chapmanville Volunteer Fire Department for recruitment and retention.

Congresswoman Miller said, "Our firefighters risk their lives every day to keep our communities safe. They deserve the best equipment and all the resources available to make that possible. I thank all of West Virginia's firefighters and all first responders for their daily commitment to saving lives and I will continue fighting to bring more funding home."

Full Details of AFG Grants:

  1. The Mason Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. will receive $38,000 for extrication equipment.
  2. The City of Bluefield will receive $155,449.52 for radios/exhaust systems.
  3. The City of Williamson, Inc., will receive $154,650.47 for Self-Contained Breathing Apparatuses.

FEMA is awarding a total of $645,567.59 in AFG grants to firefighters in the state of West Virginia. Apart from those listed above, the New Martinsville Fire Department, Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department, Route 34 Volunteer Fire Department, Elizabeth Volunteer Fire Department Inc., and the West Liberty Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., are receiving funding.
