Congresswoman Miller Announces Grant to Cabell Huntington Hospital Foundation

November 20, 2019

Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) announced today a grant worth $206,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to the Cabell Huntington Hospital Foundation.

"Each member of our community deserves access to quality health care," said Congresswoman Miller. "I am pleased to see the Cabell Huntington Hospital Foundation receive this funding that will make it easier for rural West Virginians to get the health care they need. Thank you, President Trump and Under Secretary LaVoy, for your continued commitment to improving the lives of rural Americans."

"Distance learning and telemedicine make it easier for thousands of rural residents to take advantage of economic, health care and educational opportunities without having to travel long distances," Deputy Under Secretary for Rural Development Donald "DJ" LaVoy said. "Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Perdue, USDA is committed to partnering with rural communities to help them improve their quality of life, because when rural America thrives, all of America thrives."

This Rural Development investment will provide tele-stroke and tele-oncology health care to 10 rural communities in Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia. These funds provide the foundation the means to buy telemedicine equipment and establish a tele-stroke and tele-oncology network that will serve Cabell Huntington Hospital and 10 spokes sites.

This grant is a part of a $42.5 million investment in 37 states for distance learning and telemedicine projects. It is provided through the Distance Learning and Telemedicine grant program and will reach 5.4 million rural residents across the country.
