Congresswoman Miller Announces Nearly $1 Million Grant for STEM Research at Marshall University
WASHINGTON D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) announced a grant worth $990,550 from the National Science Foundation to the Marshall University Research Corporation. The award will be going to the project, "Scholarships and a Project-based Work Studio to Support Undergraduate Student Graduation and Entry into Computer Science, Engineering, and Safety Technology Careers."
"This is an amazing opportunity to expose more students to computer science, engineering, and technology careers," said Congresswoman Miller. "Expanding access to higher-education degrees and real-life experiences will better prepare our students to enter the workforce and invest in West Virginia's future. Research and innovation lay the foundation for new discoveries that advance technology and increase economic growth in our state, and I am excited to see the outcomes of this project."
This project will provide 20 students at Marshall University with four-year scholarships and additional resources needed to support STEM degrees. The students will participate in a Project-based Work Studio that will provide them with hands on experience and expose them to real-life STEM projects. The Project-based Work Studio approach is being studied to as a new approach to workforce development.
