Congresswoman Miller Announces Senior Corps Grant
WASHINGTON D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) announced today a Senior Corps grant worth $82,500 from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) to the Summersville Baptist Church, in Summersville. A second grant, worth $220,161 was awarded to LifeBridge, Inc. in Charleston. The funding will be used to support 893 volunteers.
"With this funding, Senior Corps is adding over 800 new volunteer opportunities in our great state," said Congresswoman Miller, "I am so pleased to see this significant increase in funding go towards helping those who are interested in improving our communities through service opportunities and civic engagement."
Senior Corps works to recruit and create volunteer opportunities for Americans aged 55 and older. These volunteers mentor disadvantaged children, aid in natural disasters, fight the opioid epidemic, connect veterans to benefits, provide job readiness training, offer free taxation preparation, and much more.
