February 25, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) participated in the virtual signing ceremony of a historic trade and investment Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the State of West Virginia and the Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Facilitated by Congresswoman Miller in close coordination with Governor Jim Justice and Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade, the MOU will promote cooperation on a range of issues critical to West Virginia, including the exportation of coal, natural gas, education, mining equipment, and hardwoods to propel Vietnam's fast growing economy. The MOU will also help advance connections in tourism and educational institutions between West Virginia and Vietnam. It was signed last night by Governor Jim Justice and Vice Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai.

"This is a historic moment for West Virginia and Vietnam," said Congresswoman Miller. "This Memorandum exemplifies the great things that can happen when state and federal governments join forces to harness the power of West Virginia's world-renowned industries and resources to benefit not just our state and country, but the world. I thank Vietnam for choosing West Virginia to meet its demands, and I am confident that as a leading commodity and energy-producing region, the Mountain State will deliver tenfold. Thank you to Governor Jim Justice, Secretary Ed Gaunch, Vietnam Trade Minister Tran Tuan Anh, Vietnam Trade Vice Minister Do Thang Hai, Vietnam Ambassador Ha Kim Ngoc, and all those who played a critical role in this momentous agreement."

Congresswoman Miller serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, specifically the Trade Subcommittee, where she continues her work to promote and improve fair trade partnerships that advance the health, wealth, and long-term security of West Virginia.
