Congresswoman Miller Fights to Protect Access to Life-Saving Cures

November 5, 2021

WASHINGTON D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) took action to protect access to life-saving cures. Currently, the Build Back Better Act includes drug pricing provisions that could limit seniors' access to low-cost generic medicines and new life-saving cures.

Congresswoman Miller offered an amendment to the legislation to ensure such provisions do not go into effect until the Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) confirms passage of this legislation will not result in fewer life-saving cures or access to generic and biosimilar medications. This $1.75 trillion legislation will not only bankrupt our nation, but will cost lives.

Democrats rejected the amendment.

"Democrats' 'Build Back Broke' Act jeopardizes the well-being of Americans," said Congresswoman Miller. "Their latest price-setting scheme will result in limited access, higher costs, and fewer cures. We all want to keep prescription costs low, but sacrificing the cure for devastating diseases like cancer and Alzheimer's is not the way to do it. Unfortunately, Democrats' rejection of my amendment proves they care more about ramming through their socialist agenda than protecting our patients."
