Congresswoman Miller Highlights New Flood Wall in Milton, West Virginia
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) attended a press conference at the Milton Volunteer Fire Department to highlight the new flood wall in Milton, West Virginia. Congresswoman Miller discussed how this project will stimulate economic growth and improve West Virginia communities, helping to make it the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
Remarks as prepared are below:
“Good morning and thank you for having me here today.
I am thrilled to see the Milton floodwall finally getting completed! I know this community has been impacted by severe flooding for nearly 30 years and a floodwall is long overdue.
The tragic loss of life and the businesses and homes that have been destroyed by flooding has taken a massive toll on this community.
The floodwall will be a welcome provision to provide safety and stability to our district.
There are so many people to thank, but I first want to say thank you directly to Colonel Jayson Putnam of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He and his team have done a phenomenal job since assumed command of the Huntington District a few years ago. Because of your efforts, our district is better protected from natural disasters. This floodwall will be another step to ensuring safety for our residents.
Also, thank you to Governor Justice for your leadership. You have tirelessly supported Milton by reducing damage costs for the community and keeping this issue at the forefront of your mind.
Thank you to Senators Capito and Manchin for helping to secure this funding for the floodwall. As appropriators, both of you fight to make sure West Virginia has the finances for projects such as this, which greatly improve West Virginia.
While Senator Capito couldn’t be here today, I have to give her a shout out. As ranking member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, she ensured the Water Resources Development Act was funded in 2023, which led to this project becoming a reality.
West Virginia is truly a wild and wonderful place. As your Representative, it is so important to me that our district is a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.
I look forward to this project being completed, as it will stimulate economic growth and improve so many lives in our communities.
Thank you for having me today.”
