Congresswoman Miller’s Statement on President Trump’s State of the Union Address

February 4, 2020

Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) released today the following statement in response to President Trump's State of the Union address:

"Tonight, President Trump inspired the nation with his optimistic vision for the future of our country. In spite of the divisive and partisan driven impeachment process that has absolutely consumed Congress, our President has delivered on his promises time and time again.

"The strong economy is lifting up America, and we are truly in the midst of the great American comeback. Through job-creating policies and trade deals, President Trump has leveled the playing field around the world and our country is thriving. Brick by brick, we are rebuilding in West Virginia. I applaud our President for putting working families first with his commitment to improving education and workforce training, lowering healthcare costs, and expanding opportunities for childcare and paid family leave.

"Thanks to President Trump, our country is also safer and more secure. We are building the wall on our Southern border to alleviate the ongoing humanitarian and security crisis. We have already seen a decrease in the flow of deadly drugs into our country. President Trump has proved that actions speak louder than words. Our enemies around the world have already witnessed that we will achieve peace through strength. America will not stand for terrorism, hatred, or extremism.

"As we continue this year, I encourage my Democrat colleagues to unite with President Trump and Republicans in Congress to improve our country, rather than propagate more political theatrics. America is stronger than ever, but we still have room to grow. We can deliver the results our citizens deserve – improved healthcare, more jobs, and the opportunity for a better life for all West Virginians and Americans."
