ICYMI: Congresswoman Miller Visits Lotus Recovery Centers and Upper Big Branch Miners Memorial in Boone County
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) today visited Boone County to meet with Lotus Recovery Centers officials and pay her respects at the Upper Big Branch Miners Memorial.
Lotus Recovery Centers is a substance abuse treatment center that recently announced its expansion into Boone and Morgan Counties in West Virginia. Congresswoman Miller met with Lotus Recovery Centers officials to discuss their recent investment in the community and how she can better support their mission of helping individuals break free of addiction.
"Addiction is a heartbreaking disease that has touched us all in tragic ways," said Congresswoman Miller. "The work Lotus Recovery Centers does provides a light to those struggling in the darkness of addiction. I am grateful they have chosen to bring their life-changing care to West Virginia."
Congresswoman Miller then visited the Upper Big Branch Miners Memorial to pay her respects to the 29 miners who lost their lives in an explosion at the Upper Big Branch coal mine on April 5, 2010.
"The Upper Big Branch memorial is a solemn reminder of the sacrifice our coal miners make each day to keep our lights on and houses warm," said Congresswoman Miller. "I was humbled to pay my respects to these 29 West Virginians in person today. Their legacy and sacrifice will never be forgotten."
