Miller Sends Letter Regarding Review of the Charleston Processing and Distribution Center

December 7, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Today, Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) sent a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy regarding the Mail Processing Facility Review at the Charleston Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC), which was recently announced by the United States Postal Service (USPS).

The full letter can be found below or HERE

I am writing to voice my concern regarding the Mail Processing Facility Review at the Charleston Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC) which was announced by the United States Postal Service (USPS).

The Charleston P&DC is a critical part of postal operations in West Virginia. The center employs over 800 West Virginians and delivers economic success for the state. Over 98% of our state’s businesses are small businesses that rely on the mail system to send products and newsletters out to their customers, along with checks and mortgage payments to the bank. Mail delivery also affects older Americans in rural areas who rely on the postal service to deliver their life-saving medications and veterans who depend on the postal service to deliver their hard-earned federal benefits. Not to mention the kids and adults who still expect to receive cards on their birthdays.

While I understand that the USPS is attempting to streamline mail service as part of the Delivering for America Plan, I urge you to consider the impact that moving any services out of West Virginia would have on the jobs and economy of the state. Southern West Virginia needs timely mail delivery to continue to be a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

I appreciate your attention to this issue and look forward to continuing to work with the USPS to ensure the people of West Virginia can count on the USPS to deliver their mail efficiently.
