Miller's Statement on the Mountain Valley Pipeline Beginning Operations

June 14, 2024

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) issued a statement on the Mountain Valley Pipeline beginning operations.

“After 10 years of construction and needless legal battles, the Mountain Valley Pipeline is officially operational! The pipeline will be a reliable source of energy when our nation needs it most. Because of the Mountain Valley Pipeline, domestic energy production will increase and energy prices for Americans will decrease while improving the United States' national security. This is a great victory for West Virginia and the United States, and I will always advocate for American energy production. It was an honor to work with the other members of the West Virginia delegation to ensure this pipeline was finally completed by passing my provision in the Fiscal Responsibility Act,” said Congresswoman Miller.

Congresswoman Miller introduced legislation to finish the Mountain Valley Pipeline, as well as the provision in the Fiscal Responsibility Act that made completing the Mountain Valley Pipeline law. Congresswoman Miller joined members of the West Virginia delegation in leading an Amicus Brief to restart Mountain Valley Pipeline construction after ill-intentioned legal challenges.

Background:

  • The now operational Mountain Valley Pipeline will provide up to 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day from the Marcellus and Utica shale formations to consumers in North Carolina and South Carolina.
  • This pipeline will create new job opportunities and sustain about 5,800 jobs and $5.9 billion in economic activity in West Virginia and Virginia while bringing hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue to West Virginia, without raising taxes.
  • Completing the Mountain Valley Pipeline demonstrates that the United States is a strong energy producer and is capable of being energy independent and dominant.
