Rep. Miller's Statement on the Supreme Court Ruling in Favor of MVP

July 27, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) released the following statement after Chief Justice Roberts vacated stays issued by the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals regarding the Mountain Valley Pipeline. The construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline will now resume without delay.

“All three branches of government agree: the completion of the Mountain Valley Pipeline is legal and must be finished immediately," said Congresswoman Miller. "The American people are tired of politics interfering with domestic energy production in the name of climate change, and I am looking forward to Mountain Valley Pipeline’s swift completion which will lower energy costs and provide jobs across West Virginia.”

Background:

  • Congresswoman Miller has led efforts to ensure the Mountain Valley Pipeline is completed. Most recently, Congresswoman Miller, along with Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and Representatives Alex Mooney (R-WV) and Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) and five other members of Congress filed an amicus brief on restarting Mountain Valley Pipeline Construction, regardless of the fourth circuit court’s baseless blocking of the pipeline. Congresswoman Miller played a crucial role in including the completion of the Mountain Valley Pipeline into the Fiscal Responsibility Act and introducing the Completing American Pipelines Act in March of 2023.
  • With inflation and American natural gas prices at record highs, the completion of the Mountain Valley Pipeline will bring hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue to West Virginia without raising taxes and send strong signals to global energy markets that the United States is a stable energy producer.
  • The pipeline will provide up to 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day from the Marcellus and Utica shale formations to consumers in North Carolina and South Carolina within months of this legislation being signed into law.
  •  The Mountain Valley Pipeline will sustain about 5,800 jobs and $5.9 billion in economic activity in West Virginia and Virginia while bringing hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue to West Virginia, without raising taxes.
