Reps. Miller, Mooney, and McKinley Introduce the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve Designation Act
Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV), along with Congressman Alex Mooney (R-WV) and Congressman David McKinley (R-WV), today introduced the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve Designation Act. This legislation would redesignate the New River Gorge National River as a National Park and Preserve.
"People travel from all over the world to see the natural beauty of West Virginia, particularly the New River Gorge," said Congresswoman Miller. "This new designation will increase tourism in our state and protect the hunting and fishing areas of the Gorge. I am excited to see this strengthen our economy and create new jobs, and I encourage all of my colleagues to support this legislation."
"The New River Gorge National Park and Preserve would be a fantastic opportunity to bring more economic development growth and tourism to West Virginia," Congressman Mooney said. "This new designation would further highlight West Virginia's scenic beauty and protect the rights of sportsmen. I am pleased to work with Congresswoman Miller and my colleagues on this effort to get this important designation."
"West Virginia's natural beauty attracts hunters, fishers, hikers, white water rafters, and so many others. The New River Gorge National Park and Preserve Designation Act will protect the beauty of the New River Gorge," Congressman McKinley said. "This legislation will not only help grow the outdoor recreation industry on the New River, but also ensure that hunting and fishing can continue to be enjoyed."
Companion legislation was introduced by Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) on September 26, 2019 in the U.S. Senate.
