Congresswoman Miller Announces Funding for Disaster Recovery in Response to the Severe Storms in February 2018

July 29, 2019

Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) announced today a grant of $800,000 from the Department of Labor to assist in cleanup efforts in the western region of West Virginia. This additional funding brings the total Dislocated Worker Grants (DWG) funds awarded for this project to $1,633,325.

Congresswoman Miller said, "This grant is an exciting step forward in mobilizing this important, ongoing effort to rebuild our community after the devastating flooding in 2018. This funding will provide aid in opportunities for employment and training for West Virginians which will open the door for further economic growth. These are the kinds of programs I am fighting for in Congress to ensure a robust workforce and economy in West Virginia."

The Department of Labor previously granted $2,500,000 in September of 2018 in addition to the initial release of $833,325 following the issuance of the Federal Emergency Management Agency declaration of a major disaster in April 2018.

The U.S. Department of Labor's mission is to develop and advance services for job seekers, retirees and wage earners to receive aid in bettering working conditions, profitable employment options and overall worker welfare. DWG is supported by the Department of Labor and through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act which works to temporarily expand services for dislocated worker training and employment programs through funding assistance following unexpected economic events that result in significant job losses in the region.
