Rep. Miller Speaks on Earmark Secured for the Fresenius Kidney Care J. Robert Pritchard Dialysis Center

October 31, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Yesterday, Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) spoke at a Marshall Health Network event for the Cabell Huntington Hospital (CHH) Fresenius Kidney Care J. Robert Pritchard Dialysis Center in Huntington, West Virginia. During the event, Congresswoman Miller highlighted the $3,000,000 she secured for the Fresenius Kidney Care J. Robert Pritchard Dialysis Center through Community Project Funding in 2022 and toured the future nephrology program expansion site.

CHH will use the funding to establish a nephrology program that will have the ability to serve over 36,000 kidney disease patients per year and provide resources to offer an option for in-home dialysis treatments.

“Investing in kidney care projects is crucial for the wellbeing of kidney disease patients in West Virginia,” said Congresswoman Miller. “Securing this earmark was a top priority for me as it will save lives in our community from the “silent killer” of kidney failure. I will continue to focus on legislation that provides kidney care and health care access to patients in rural America. I am looking forward to the great impact this nephrology program at the Fresenius Kidney Care J. Robert Pritchard Dialysis Center will have on West Virginia.”

What They're Saying:

  • The Herald Dispatch"We want to draw attention to Congresswoman Miller's efforts on behalf of many things in Central Appalachia, and today in particular with regards to her support of nephrology services and the expansion of home dialysis services," Dr. Kevin Yingling, CEO of Marshall Health Network said. "She wrote a letter and asked Medicare to cover home dialysis for patients with acute kidney injury, which will allow patients to be in the comfort of their home as they take control of their well being. She also was the leader in one piece of legislation, the Chronic Kidney Disease Improvement and Research Treatment Act, a bipartisan bill, which many understand will expand access to kidney care because it will make it part of the Medicare annual wellness benefit."
